The High Hill is one of the most historically significant areas in New Ross.
It was the primary market road from the Irishtown to the old bridge across the Barrow River and onto Rosbercon on the Kilkenny side of the river.
In recent years the area became very derelict and was targeted by those engaging in anti-social behaviour.
For ‘Get Involved’ the New Ross Tidy Towns organisation in conjunction with the Wexford Echo Group decided to completely revamp the area.
The work will involve cleaning up and remedying the dereliction in the area including painting some of the vacant houses which have been falling into disrepair in recent years.
Other work will involve painting the whole area, cutting down weeds to develop a community garden type area and making the entire High Hill section of the town safer and more aesthetically pleasing for visitors and locals alike and turn what is, at the moment, a derelict area into a public amenity.
